About Us

Many of the Barossa’s grand old homes have a colourful history, but Tanunda House has more of a musical one. It was built in 1910 and piano importer Theodor Geyer not only took up residence, but used his home as a piano warehouse and showroom. He was an agent for the famous Doehnert piano, as well as other instruments and had up to 40 pianos and organs on display in the main living area. Theo was the organist at the historic Langmeil Lutheran Church for 50 years, and upon his death in 1945, bequeathed a new pipe organ to the Church which is still being used today.
Tanunda House caught the attention of the nation's music industry in 1936 when it was discovered that Theo’s library contained four exquisite manuscripts by the famous German composer Carl Linger, who arrived in Australia in 1849 and was best known for composing the music for the “Song of Australia”.
Tanunda House was later owned by Eric Schulz, then winemaker Robin Day, before it was bought and extensively renovated by Stefan and Leanne Ahrens in 2006. When Stefan and Leanne moved to Adelaide, they established Tanunda House as a sister property to the award-winning Kingsford Homestead so that other people could enjoy its luxury appointments and myriad of entertainment options, including bar and barbecue, swimming pool, tennis court, cinema room, caterer's kitchen and open plan dining area.

Current owners, Stefan and Leanne Ahrens, purchased Tanunda House and the acre block in 2006 to serve as their family home. Stefan and Leanne undertook a renovation which included the addition of the impressive kitchen, dining and family room out the back. This was built around the existing swimming pool. They also completely re landscaped the acre of superb grounds bringing this stunning property to its current form today.

Stefan and Leanne now live in Adelaide with their two children. They extend their warmest welcome and invitation to stay at one of the Barossa’s newest and most luxurious accommodation venues, Tanunda House. Their promise to you – the Barossa will never disappoint.
